When Agriculture is mentioned what comes to mind is that it’s a dirty job meant for the poor and can be practiced by anyone. It has been embedded in the minds of Nigerians that agriculture is dirty and non profitable. This is maybe part of why the country abandoned agriculture go oil despite it being the main stay of the economy.
Is Agricultural really a dirty man’s job?
While many might seem to agree to this, this is untrue. Agriculture, especially modern agriculture goes beyond farming with crude implements and tools and all that. It is a wide field ranging from food and feed production to livestock production, from soil science to Agricultural economics. It is no longer necessary to dirty your hands to become an agriculturist. Infact you can be an agriculturist with zero knowledge on farming.
One of the most developing field in Nigeria currently, is the use of digital tools. With this knowledge, you can be incorporated into Agriculture as Leveraging digital tools for Agricultural practices is the order of the day
Gone are the days when Agriculture is seen as a dirty man’s job. It is a proven source of income that is gaining recognition more as the clock ticks. Food security can never be tackled without development in Agriculture.
Like I love to say. The long fought war in economic development is won or lost in the Agricultural sector.
